The Beginning of the Lallier Group and the 1970s

It was in the early 1960s that Jacques Dagenais began his career in the automotive industry, distinguishing himself by becoming one of the very first Toyota franchisees in Canada. This decision marked the beginning of a remarkable entrepreneurial journey. Building on this initial experience, he steadily earned a solid reputation as a visionary and a builder within the sector.

In 1975, a strategic opportunity arose: Roger Lallier, then the owner of a Honda dealership in Repentigny, decided to sell his business. Jacques Dagenais seized the opportunity and acquired it, marking his entry into the Honda network. This key event represented far more than a simple change in ownership—it officially signaled the birth of Groupe Lallier.

Although the beginnings were modest, they hinted at significant growth potential. That same year, responding to the high demand for these small vehicles, Jacques Dagenais opened a second Honda dealership, this time in Montreal.

Success soon followed. Between 1975 and 1977, three additional Honda dealerships were added to the company’s portfolio: Charlesbourg, Hull, and Quebec City. Strategically distributed across the Quebec territory, these new acquisitions reflected a clear intent to serve an increasingly expansive market.

Driven by exceptional leadership, strong discipline, and a long-term vision, Jacques Dagenais continued to expand his operations with determination. Under his insightful direction, Groupe Lallier quickly became a major player in Quebec’s automotive sector. Thanks to effective management, a constant focus on customer satisfaction, and an ability to adapt to market changes, the company succeeded in establishing itself as the first multi-franchise Honda organization in the country—combining innovation, excellence, and entrepreneurial spirit.
